Hello, friends! It’s finally September, which means Jax is almost an 18 month old! My little peanut is going to be a year and a half! He is my rough and tumble – my wild child. He is constantly climbing on top of the living room table, trying to stand up on the edge of the kitchen table, and more recently, climbing out of his high chair. My little man can also climb up the front of his high chair and sit down as if he was already placed there. It takes him a matter of 2.6 seconds to do any of these things.
How I have any time to blog while I’m chasing around this crazy kid, I don’t know!
My husband and I decided to take a little break from placing him in his high chair, though. Right now, with him not wanting to hold still for more than two seconds, it’s just safer not putting him in at all. He was starting to climb out of the chair once he felt he was done. We have a child’s size table in our family room for our kids, and thought we would maybe like to try seeing if he’d eat there!
*I received the Nuby Sure-Grip Miracle Mat in exchange for my honest review. Happiness In Homemaking never guarantees a positive review.
We decided to try Nuby’s Sure-Grip Miracle Mat, because when you lose the battle of the high chair, you also lose out on the attached tray.
For our first go at it, I washed his mat with warm soapy water, and cut up his favorite snack.
Jax absolutely LOVES strawberries! He tolerates Cheerios, and absolutely hates bananas. I read somewhere that you should try giving your child food upwards of 10 times before they finally eat it. He’s been offered bananas way more than 10 times, but who’s counting anymore?
So, I put them all on his mat, each in their own compartment.
Is that my wild child sitting down, polite as can be, eating a healthy snack?
Great Feeding Tool
The Sure-Grip Miracle Mat from Nuby is a great feeding tool to have for us because it….
- Is great for 6 months+
- Has a non-slip base that sticks to flat surfaces
- Is a plate and place mat in one (easier clean up, no flipped over plates or bowls!)
- Is BPA Free, made with Silicone (easy to wipe off, rinse)
- Dishwasher safe
- Integrated section plate (this is actually great for older kids too, that have problems with certain foods touching other foods!)
I think he did pretty well, for his first time! Most of his strawberries are eaten, half of his Cheerios are gone, and all the bananas were thoughtfully saved for mama.
We’ve used this mat about 3-4 times since we our first go. He eats every meal and snack now at our kid’s table, politely picking at his foods. I love that the mat is dishwasher safe – washing it with my other dishes saves me just that much more time when I’m cleaning up. It has been washed several times now, and shows no sign of wear or melting from my sanitizing cycle. The mat is pretty thick, and suctions well to the table. Don’t get me wrong, it can be easily peeled off the table. But if you try to lift the mat from the integrated sections (where the food is placed) it doesn’t budge!
I would recommend this mat to my fellow mamas and friends. My family has found it to be a great tool, and it is the one single thing we’ve needed to move our eager 17 month old from his high chair to table eating.
